THE LAST GOLDFISH: A TRUE TALE OF FRIENDSHIP

'A quiet miracle'

From the 2021 Ottawa Book Award jury, which selected The Last Goldfish as a finalist: “Exquisitely written and never mawkish, this memoir relies on vivid imagery, precise language and unflinching reflection.  The story is a quiet miracle — both deeply personal, and also universal in its treatment of themes to which any reader can relate.”

WORKSHOPS & JOURNALISM

Teaching and writing

I write on poetry, ecology, culture, and issues of broad concern to society. I also run poetry and prose workshops in public libraries. I also love to design courses for participants to engage with their community through writing in response to an art exhibition, an element of local history, or an urban nature environment. I teach full-length courses and also take on selective manuscripts for feedback and evaluation. Visit the tabs under Writing & More for more details.

Smell the Cabbage

I’ll give you the scene. A young woman in her Toronto apartment. Some workers arrive to fix the plumbing downstairs, and one comes up to turn on the water.
