My experience as an editor is extensive and broad, including journalistic, literary and museum publications.
As series editor of Best Canadian Poetry, Canada’s annual anthology showcasing the best work by Canadian poets, published by Biblioasis, I have shepherded this vital yearly stocktaking of the state of poetry in Canada since 2018, recruiting and working with each edition’s guest editor as well as a rotating team of editors-at-large. Previously, I served for four years as assistant series editor under the anthology’s founding editor, Molly Peacock.
I have edited manuscripts for authors publishing with Biblioasis and Goose Lane Editions, as well as privately. If your manuscript needs a close eye and productive feedback, please be in touch, and we can discuss the possibilities.
I provide copy editing and other editorial services for book-length research publications, such as the Canada Science and Technology Museum’s Transformation Series 20, The Development of Metallurgy in Canada Since 1900.
From 2004–2011 I served as editor of Arc Poetry Magazine, one of Canada’s most respected and longstanding literary journals, introducing such initiatives as Arc’s groundbreaking virtual Poet-in-Residence program and annual theme issues on topics ranging from Canada’s forgotten and neglected poets to literary prize culture to ekphrasis, the historic and lasting connection between poets and the visual arts (we called this issue, which involved collaboration with the National Gallery of Canada, Poet as Art Thief).
I am a past associate editor of Ottawa Magazine, Ottawa Business Magazine and the Ottawa Business Journal.
I served as the first editor of Kitchissippi Times, a lively newspaper in Ottawa’s Hintonburg and West Wellington neighbourhoods. In setting the scope and tone for the paper, I combined serious journalism with a side of playfulness: we addressed important local concerns while also reflecting the vibrancy and character of the eclectic urban community we called home.
