While Supplies Last
‘Capacious, generous, and gently funny’ – Molly Peacock
In my third collection of poetry with Signal Editions (Véhicule Press, Montreal), I miss a tsunami warning; fall in with dubious beachcomber crows; attempt to figure out why hydro pylons haunt me; confront the unsettling resurrection of a fossilized baby mammoth; worry over plucky urban birds, out-of-whack seasons and the nature of home; introduce you to a brilliantly resourceful berry-picking witch (er, old friend); embark on a series of expeditions through the roiling currents of Toronto’s iconic Don River; find solace and joy (who knew?) in radio traffic reports; and disturb lingering embers from the wildfire that, in 1976, raged through the coastal Cape Breton village where my father grew up. (These last poems form the building blocks of the stunning new comic book, Fire Monster, a collaboration with the artist Pauline Conley, published by Palimpsest Press.)
